How Is Dry Eye Treated?

Treatment depends on the cause and severity. Options include:

  • Artificial tears (lubricating eye drops), often recommended 2-4 times a day
  • Prescription eye drops (anti-inflammatory or tear-stimulating)
  • Warm compress and eyelid hygiene
  • Omega-3 supplements or fish oils
  • Punctal plugs to help retain tears
  • Lifestyle changes – taking screen breaks, using humidifiers, staying hydrated
    • Follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds
